Ocymum canum
Alfavaca, bush basil This is a low-growing bushy plant that is a native of India and has a sweet scent. The homoeopathic tincture is made from fresh leaves, and it is used as a remedy for renal colic and stones affecting the right kidney. The symptoms are pain and vomiting, a cloudy urine because of a deposit of reddish 'sand', and urinary frequency. There may be infection present and a sharp pain on passing urine, as in cystitis. The urine has a strong, pungent smell.

Petroleum Petroleum, or liquid crude oil, is found trapped in oil-bearing rocks in the earth's crust and is derived from decayed organic material from the Carboniferous geological period. Petroleum is a vital fuel resource upon which people throughout the world are heavily reliant. In conventional medicine, petroleum jelly is used as an external treatment for minor skin abrasions. Purified petroleum is used to prepare the homoeopathic remedy, which was first investigated and proved by Hahnemann and which is given for skin complaints.
These include dry, cracked, chafed skin, particularly on the fingers, and eczema. These complaints are worse in cold weather, when the skin is subjected to chilling and heating. The remedy is also used for sickness, nausea and vomiting, especially as a result of travel sickness. There is a tendency for headaches to occur, especially in the back of the head.

This remedy is derived from the leaves of sorrel, which have long had a culinary use. The leaves have a sour, sharp quality and can be used in place of vinegar. The plant itself is small and delicate and grows in Britain and other European countries. It produces delicate, white flowers shaped like little bells, which are veined with purple. Preparations made from the plant have cooling and diuretic properties.
